Financial services contractors are set to be given a boost by the Scottish labour market in 2010, according to forecasts from a leading recruitment agency.
Analysts at Joslin Rowe predicted that the number of temporary staff employed north of the border will grow by five per cent this year on average after carrying out a survey of Scottish businesses in the sector.
The pollster discovered that 75 per cent of firms planning to hire financial services contractors are set to forego permanent employees altogether.
"By hiring contractors they will endeavour to bolster their teams relatively flexibly depending on market movements," the recruitment firm explained.
Furthermore, 59 per cent of respondents said they plan to maintain similar numbers of temporary staff this year as in 2009.
The financial services sector has also been predicted to create new job opportunities for IT contractors over the coming year.
According to Powerchex, there has been a "significant improvement" in the number of vacancies on offer to IT contractors from financial institutions in 2010.
