Creative industries could be cornerstone'' of Scotland''s economic future

Culture minister Fiona Hyslop has reaffirmed the Scottish government's commitment to the country's digital enterprises during a visit to Dundee.

While paying a visit to local game development firms Tag Game and Dynamo Games, she outlined the government's ongoing efforts to support the country's creative industries, through schemes such as the Digital Media IP fund.

Ms Hyslop went on to address the Digital Spark conference at Abertay University where she expressed disappointment over the UK government's scrappage of proposed tax cuts for games firms.

"Our creative industries can be a cornerstone of Scotland's economic future and digital media will be vital to that success," she said.

Ms Hyslop also claimed the lack of support from the UK government was one of the many reasons that further Scottish devolution was needed to secure sufficient financial powers to make necessary policy changes.

Her announcement comes after the energy minister for Scotland welcomed a report into the economic benefit of creating wind farms in the country.
