Construction contractors invited to bid on new Bristol campus

Construction contractors in the UK have been invited to bid on a new £35 million campus for the University of Bristol.

The higher education institution has invited contractors to bid to carry out the development of the new site for the life sciences department alongside architect Sheppard Robson, Construction Enquirer reports.

As well as including research laboratories and teaching centres, the 13,500 square foot building at the Old Children’s Hospital site on the city's St Michael’s Hill will also feature a central atrium with both administrative and academic offices.

Construction contractors have up until February 25th 2011 to launch their bid to develop the new campus, which is part of a wider £80 million University of Bristol regeneration project.
However, ground retention, excavation and demolition will be carried out by employees under a separate contract.

Paul Morrell, construction tsar, recently called for a closer partnership between the building industry and the government to deliver low-carbon plans, which will require a "radical change" to the way the sector conducts business.
