The contractor representative group PCG is calling on the Government and policy makers to look at freelancing with fresh eyes at the start of the new decade.

John Brazier, MD of the PCG, says freelance businesses are part of "the bedrock of the private sector", bringing flexibility and a skill set to the economy.

There needs to be a clear recognition of freelancing as a valid way of working according to Brazier. And how? He suggests fairer taxation, better regulation... and a proper appreciation of the changing work patterns for millions of people.

PCG is asking for the Government departments and their contractors not to discriminate against freelancers who don''t have pre-existing security clearance when choosing freelancers.
