The Government Equalities Office is set to work with business organisations, trade bodies and recruitment firms to promote greater diversity in the job market.

The plan is to get firms to commit to internal targets and actions, says the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

The group has been created to make sure all recruiters are "properly consulted" on developments like those aimed giving more women senior positions in the financial services sector.

The REC says it will work with the Government Equalities Office to make sure future targets are "suitable and achievable".

It comes after Maria Eagle MP, minister of state for the Ministry of Justice, announced that the government aims to increase the proportion of women in senior positions.ADNFCR-2980-ID-19551913-ADNFCR
