Over half of contractors in the public sector could be expecting a pay rise this year, findings have shown.

A study by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has shown that 57 per cent of public sector staff are looking to see a rise in their earnings.

But Charles Cotton, CIPD reward adviser, says "public sector workers are clearly not sensing that the pay storm clouds are gathering".

It looks like 2010 will be the last "hurrah of this gilded age" according to Cotton.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics recently showed that public sector staff received pay rises up to triple the amount awarded to private sector employees during 2009.

To get the most out of contractor pay rises, using a reputable umbrella company like Excellium Umbrella Services will help to maximise earnings.ADNFCR-2980-ID-19537067-ADNFCR
