Young people are being taught vital management and leadership skills, which could make them more employable umbrella company contractors in future.

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has redoubled its efforts to teach secondary school and college children vital skills to help tackle youth unemployment.

CMI''s Campus scheme now works with 150 schools, which is a 55 per cent increase from September 2010 numbers.

This employer-led programme delivers qualifications in Team Leading, equivalent to one GCSE, and in First Line Management, which is equal to an A-level award.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation has recently urged businesses to do more to tackle youth unemployment.

REC''s director of policy and professional services says: "Youth employment data is a cause for alarm ... but this is not just an issue for government."
